Write a paragraph about your new schedule at your "new school" by addressing these questions

Then write a paragraph for one of your classmates. The following is the list of courses offered at West  High School.

Test 5 Review Sheet (Test on Tuesday, 11/29)

The format of this test would be similar to last one.

Vocabulary

1.Make sure that you can label these body parts with characters.

2. You must know the characters Pinyin and English Meaning of these vocabulary (if you are having problem with some of these words, type in Character or Pinyin the Arch Chinese dictionary on the right to see sample sentences).

Sentences:
1. Any sentences in the text or in the handout is fair game for translation questions.

Grammar：
1.You must know the difference of 能，会， 可以。
2.因为。。。所以 。。。能/不能
3. Suggestion for illness by using 多 and 少： 多休息， 少说话， 多喝开水。
4. Using 次. Ex.  一天3次,   一次两片。
5. 是。。。的： 我的头发是黑色的 （notice you have to include 的）
6. Know how to negate symptom and illness： 我不咳嗽， 我嗓子不疼。 我没感冒。 我没发烧。
7. 有 in describing appearance （usually use in estimation）： 他的身高有一米八。 他的体重有150磅。

Essay：
1） Describe one experience when you had a cold. When did you start feeling sick? What symptoms did you experience? Who took you to the doctor and where did you go (clinic or hospital). What did the doctor say about your illness. What medicine the doctor gave you? What medicine did the doctor prescribe? What advice did the doctor give? How many days you had for sick leave?

2) Write down the script of your call to your teacher asking for a sick leave
1) Opening that greets me and telling me who you are：喂， 施老师您好。。。
2) Date:  今天是 #月 #号， 星期 # 。
3) Describe your illness and symptoms （include at least 3 symptoms）， be detailed.
4) Length of your sick leave.

My Future Home Project Description (Due Monday 12/05)

我未来的家

What does your dream house look like? Imagine you own a home yourself, where would it be, what kind of setting it is, urban, suburban or rural? What type of home would you own, Apartment, condominium,  or a single-family house?  How many rooms do you want for your house? What kind of rooms?  In your 2^nd project 我未来的家 （My Future Home）,  please include the following: 

Cover Page：

1.     Include the title in characters 我未来的家.

2.     A picture of your future home looking from outside (This could drawn or a cut out of picture you take from online sources. 

3.     A 100-character paragraph describing the environment of your future home. You can talk about what kind of setting, urban or rural? How do you plan to get to work? What kind of public facilities are around? How is it that you choose to live there? (Good schools? Quiet environment? Convenience? Accessible to other facilities? Good commute to work?) -（Draft Due 11/22)

1^st Page:

     1.Title that says  平面图 –floor plan

     2.The floor plan of your future home. Make sure you mark every room with characters. It should at least include a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room.

3. A description of floor plan. How many rooms are there and what are they.  Ex. 这个房子有七个房间， 有两个卫生间， 两个卧室， 一个厨房， 一个客厅， 一个餐厅。

4.     Relative location of each room and their uses. Ex. 厨房在大门的对面， 是用来煮饭做菜的。 You can also describe all relative location of rooms first and then a separate paragraph for uses.  

2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th page :

For each of those pages, one page for bedroom, one page for living room and one page for kitchen.  You should have:

1.     A title that is the room of your house. EX.   厨房.  

2.     Layout of your room that includes location of furniture and home appliances and label them, you should have at least 5 items in the room.

You should label 5 of the furniture or appliances such as 床， 床头柜， 衣柜， 电视 etc

3.     Description of the room’s item using “着”and measure words.  EX. 厨房的地上放着一部冰箱. 厨房的墙上挂着一幅图。  门的对面放着一张床 。Remember 5 items minimum， so you should have at least 5 sentences using “着” and measure word. 

5^th page：

You can choose to do any other room，could be dining room， bathroom， balcony， or a gym in the house. Same requirement for those in 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th pages. 

Other Notes:

-All characters need to be handwritten. 

-Draft of description for title page is due on Tuesday 11/22.  I will hand those back to you on Wednesday.

-Extra Credit for turning in on Friday 12/02 (2 points).

-I will be glad to read any draft during the process!

Besides the worksheet HW, respond to the follow prompt using English (3 lines at least,  6 Points). And then reply to one of your classmates' comment (2 lines at least,  4 points).

"Did your perception on the effectiveness of Chinese medicine changed after having the lesson on Chinese medicine? Why or why not. Explain your reasoning. The pick a comment to reply if you agree or disagree and why.

HW 1. Write  2-3 sentences for each of those pictures. Have different symptom/sickness in which you have to use the following measures to cope with.  Please use the form 你要是 + symptom/sickness, 就应该多 （少）+ (use terms used in the handout). Make sure you have 15 sentences in total.

 EX. 你要是感冒， 就应该多穿一点儿衣服。

Test 4 Review Sheet

Vocabulary: 
1.All vocabulary from lesson   我们要搬家了， 我有了自己的房间， 我总算找到了他的家. You have to know the characters Pinyin and English meaning of those.

2. Given these characters, you must be able to recognize:

 Grammar:
1. Know how to use sentence connectors:
     不但。。。而且。。。，    要是。。。就。。。，    一。。。就。。。，    因为。。。所以。。。，    一边。。。一边。。。

2. Know the difference of 才 and 就
    我昨天十一点才起床 （indiacte lateness， notice you don't use 了 with 才）
    我昨天五点就起床了 （indicate earliness， notice you do use 了 with 就）
3. Know how to change a sentence to 把 and 被 structure or convert 把 sentence into 被 sentence and vice versa.
4. The use of  "着" to indicate the continuation of an action or a state.
    Ex. 我听着音乐。（Continuation of action "listening"）
          妈妈忙着收拾。（Continuation of state of being "busy"）
5. To tell that you want to buy certain thing worth certain amount of money.
  Ex.  我要买  一把 八十块钱的椅子。

Short answer:
1.You must be able to give direction for one to go for Point A to Point B.
2.Translate from Chinese to English and vice versa. Any sentence from 3 lessons will be fair game.
3. Given the layout of the room， you can say how many rooms and what rooms are there. And you can describe the relative location of a room using  左边， 右边， 旁边， 中间， or 对面

Essay (Could be any of the one or two topics）

1. Know how to describe your neighborhood including location，environment etc. provision of public facilities and which ones do you usually go to AND how often do you go there. How do you go from your home to your school. Do you like your neighborhood and why?

2. Know how to describe your home. You must know how to say where you live and when you moved in. The rooms in your apartment or house. The select furnitures and appliances in the house. And if you like your room or not, and why.

 

11/09 HW

Pick 3 tasks (cannot be the one you did in the classroom)： and write out the from-to (Ex.  医院-地铁站） location first and then create a Q & A like the example above  to give direction to a random stranger. When you make conversation (remember to write questions as well!) , please keep in mind that you are giving direction to a person who does not have a map on hand and you need to give as accurate of information as possible!

HW 11/03

Pretend that you are a real estate agent and your are describing to your client the houses you are selling. Pick 2 houses (Not the one you did in classroom) and describe: 

1) How many room are there and what kind

    这个房子。。。

2) What are relative location of EACH room（you can use one of 5 direction words： 左边， 右边， 旁边， 中间， 对面）.

    EX.   大门的对面是卧室

          or 卧室在大门对面

3）The function of each room
       Use the ...是用来...的 structure.

11/01 HW

HW 1. Imagine you are going to study in China, and you need to go furniture shopping. Go to IKEA China site 宜家中国  and find  书桌    ，餐桌， 茶几，椅子， 沙发， 书架， 衣柜， 床头柜/床边桌
 

And start with, 

我要去宜家家居买。。。

Ex：一把五百九十九块钱的波昂沙发。 

 8 sentences of this kind to follow. Make sure you copy down the model name (波昂） as well so I know you actually went to the site.


HW 2. Write at least 8 sentences describing this picture, all using "放着".
