HW: Writing a Letter to Parents - Bridge the Generation Gap in Your Family

Writing prompt:
Write a letter to your parents to share your ideas of how to bridge the generation gap in your family.

    我知道很多中学生抱怨和父母之间有代沟,觉得父母不了解他们,很少跟他们交谈,更没有时间倾听他们的想法。有时他们甚至跟父母争吵,影响和睦的家庭生活。我觉得经常沟通对缩小代沟有很大的帮助。

    我和父母关系融洽。我们每天吃晚饭的时候都会聊天。我们聊电视里的新闻,聊学校的事情,聊一年后我上哪个大学、学什么专业。我们还常常一起遛狗,周末一起去买东西。

    我的父母和大多数中国父母一样,对我有很高的期望。尽管我们有不同的爱好,有时我们的想法也不太一样,但是他们愿意倾听我的想法,理解、尊重我的想法,让我有自由做我喜欢做的事情、选择我喜欢的专业。而且,不管他们有多忙,他们都会在我需要的时候跟我交谈、给我帮助。

一个真实的故事


玛丽在孙老师班上学了四年中文。当玛丽还是高一学生时,她的父亲告诉孙老师玛丽以后想成为一名海洋生物学家,学习中文应该对她今后的职业有帮助。学了两年中文后,玛丽的父亲再次见到孙老师,告诉她玛丽非常喜欢学中文,高中毕业后准备主修应用语言学 (Applied Linguistics) 专业,并申请中文项目 (Chinese Program)。没想到,玛丽的选择是认真的。现在,她已被州立大学中文项目录取。

就在三个月前,玛丽的妈妈在整理照片时再次看到了孙老师和玛丽在玛丽中文视频竞赛颁奖会上的合影,马上给孙老师发了一个邮件,感谢她四年来对玛丽的帮助和鼓励。孙老师把这件事告诉她先生,没想到她先生说:“还好那个学生来自美国人的家庭。如果她家是中国人,她的父母一定会恨你的。”

Picture book HW

Direction for picture book HW :
Use TWO 8 X 11.5 papers, fold them in half so that you have 8 pages available(you can choose to have more pages, but minimum is 8):
  1. Create a picture book for one of the following prompts:
  • Write a story of respecting the elderly and loving the young; 编写一本故事书来讲述一个尊老爱幼的故事。
  • Write what you would do to practice filial devotion in your family.编写一本故事书叙述你会怎样孝敬长辈。
  1. Requirements:
  • The picture book should be composed of at least 8 pages, including a title page, an introductory page, five pages for examples and details, and a concluding page (this is usually the part that tells the moral of the story).
  • Must Include the new vocabulary of this lesson: 尊老爱幼,孝顺,尊敬,长辈,关爱,晚辈,分担,家务,甚至 (please underline those words, otherwise no credit)
  • Have picture for each page that correlate to what you are narrating.
  • Remember this is a language assignment rather than art assignment (although good drawing is a plus). 
  • You will be graded using the AP narration rubrics (this means you need to include transition to get a smooth story line, same as last time, if you score 5/6, you will get full credit, if you get above 5, that is extra credit)).
  • It is strongly recommended that you write a draft first before you put the final down.
